Does laser hair removal hurt?

​​

Most clients describe the sensation as a quick snap or brief warmth against the skin. Our laser has a built-in cooling system that cools the skin with each pulse, making treatments much more comfortable. Sensitivity varies depending on the treatment area and the individual.

How many sessions will I need?

​​

Most clients need a series of approximately 6 to 12 treatments, although the number varies by treatment area, hair type, skin type, hormones, and individual growth patterns. Laser works best on hairs that are in the active growth phase, and only a portion of your hair is in that phase at any given time. That’s why a series of treatments is necessary.

How often should I schedule my treatments?

Most treatments are scheduled about 4 to 8 weeks apart, depending on the area being treated. Facial areas are generally treated more frequently, while areas such as the legs, back, or chest may require more time between appointments. 
 

Is laser hair removal permanent?

​​

Laser hair removal provides long-term, permanent hair reduction. Many clients achieve a substantial reduction in hair growth after completing their treatment series. Hair that remains or grows back is often finer and less noticeable. Periodic maintenance treatments may be recommended to keep the area as smooth as possible.

Will laser hair removal work

on my skin tone and hair color?

Our medical-grade laser uses two wavelengths, allowing us to safely treat a wide range of skin tones, from very fair to deeply pigmented skin. Because the laser targets pigment in the hair, it works best on brown and black hair. Blonde, red, gray, and white hair generally do not contain enough pigment for the laser to target effectively.

How should I prepare for my appointment?​

​

Shave the treatment area about 24 hours before your appointment. The hair beneath the skin needs to remain intact, so avoid waxing, tweezing, threading, or epilating the area for at least four weeks beforehand. Limit sun exposure and avoid tanning beds and self-tanner for at least 2 weeks before treatment.

Can you perform laser hair removal

over a tattoo?

​

Laser hair removal cannot be performed directly over a tattoo because the laser is attracted to pigment and may also target the tattoo ink. This can cause burns, blistering, or changes to the tattoo. We can treat the surrounding skin while maintaining a safe distance from the tattoo.

What happens if I miss or delay a treatment?

​​

Staying close to your recommended schedule helps us treat the hair during the appropriate stages of its growth cycle. If an appointment is delayed, your treatment series can simply take longer to complete. We’ll adjust your next appointment based on the area and your current hair growth.

Can I have laser hair removal while

pregnant or breastfeeding?

​

We do not perform laser hair removal during pregnancy. Hormonal changes during pregnancy can also temporarily affect hair growth and skin sensitivity. After pregnancy, we can help you determine the appropriate time to resume treatment based on your individual circumstances.

What is paradoxical hypertrichosis?

​

Paradoxical hypertrichosis is an uncommon side effect in which laser treatment can stimulate increased hair growth in or around a treated area. It is seen more often when treating fine or downy hair, particularly on certain areas of the face and neck. Careful client selection, proper settings, and choosing the appropriate areas for treatment help reduce the risk.

What is the difference between laser hair removal and electrolysis?

​

Laser hair removal uses light energy to treat multiple hair follicles at once, making it especially efficient for larger areas such as the legs, back, underarms, or bikini area. It works best on hair that contains darker pigment.

 

Electrolysis treats one hair follicle at a time with a very fine probe and electrical current. It can treat hair colors that laser cannot effectively target, including blonde, red, gray, and white hair. Electrolysis is FDA-recognized as a method of permanent hair removal, while laser is classified as permanent hair reduction.

AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS

​

• Immediately after your Laser Hair Removal treatment, there should be redness and bumps on the treated area, which may last up to 2 hours, sometimes longer. It is normal for the treated area to feel warm for a few hours. You may use cold compresses for relief. ​

 

• Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds throughout the course of your treatments in order to reduce the chance of developing dark or light spots on your skin. Use an SPF 30+ sunscreen at all times when going outside throughout your treatments.​

 

• DO NOT USE any other hair removal methods or products during the course of your Laser Hair Removal treatments, as this will prevent you from achieving the best results. Instead, you may shave or trim the area. ​

 

• Shedding of the hair will occur anywhere from 5-30 days after your Laser Hair Removal treatment, which may appear as new hair growth. This is not new hair growth, but dead hairs pushing their way out of the follicle. You can help the hair exfoliate by washing or wiping with a washcloth. 

 

• Hair regrowth occurs at different rates on different areas of the body. New hair growth will not occur for at least three weeks after you Laser Hair Removal treatment.

 

• In some people, a histamine reaction (hives, itchiness, redness) can occur. If you experience such a reaction, apply cortisone cream to the affected area. Please call us if such a reaction does not subside.
