LASER HAIR

REDUCTION

Goodbye, Unwanted Hair

Hello Silky Smooth Skin

Over time, waxing, shaving, or using hair removal creams can cost you thousands of dollars and don’t guarantee that problematic hair will permanently disappear.

If you are ready to give up the razor, waxing, or hair removal creams for good,

Laser Hair Reduction is your best solution.

FAQ

HOW DOES LASER HAIR REDUCTION WORK?

During a laser hair reduction treatment, a laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the hair follicles. This damage inhibits or delays future hair growth.

NOTE: You should shave the area to be treated the night before your treatment.

WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?

Each pulse, which lasts less than a second, produces a slight tingling feeling.

In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a quick,

light pinch.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

Most people experience no side effects at all, while some may exhibit some short-term local reddening of the surrounding skin and possible hyper or hypo pigmentation. You can return to your regular activities immediately after treatment, although it is advisable to keep the skin protected from exposure to direct sunlight as long as you are receiving treatments.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

We recommend 6 or more sessions. This is because hair follicles develop in stages. The immature hair follicles are the farthest from the skin’s surface; therefore, laser light cannot destroy them. As each follicle grows, it starts to move up to the skin’s surface and becomes vulnerable to the laser light. In short, the laser can eliminate only the visible follicles. You should notice hair reduction after your first treatment.

IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL RIGHT FOR ME?

Laser Hair Reduction works best on black or brown hair. You are not a candidate for Laser Hair Reduction if your hair is gray, white or blonde.

AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Immediately after your Laser Hair Reduction treatment, there should be redness and bumps on the treated area, which may last up to 2 hours, sometimes longer. It is normal for the treated area to feel tender for a few hours. You may use cold compresses for relief.

  • Avoid any trauma to the skin for up to 2-5 days, such as bathing with very hot water, strenuous exercise, or massage.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds throughout the course of your treatments in order to reduce the chance of developing dark or light spots on your skin. Use Elta MD SPF 30+ sunscreen (available in our office) at all times when going outside throughout your treatments.

  • Avoid scratching or picking the treated area.

  • DO NOT USE any other hair removal methods or products during the course of your Laser Hair Reduction treatments, as this will prevent you from achieving the best results. Instead, you may shave or trim the area.

  • You may shower after your Laser Hair Reduction treatment. The treated area may be washed gently with a mild soap. Skin should be pat dried and NOT rubbed. You may apply deodorant after 24 hours.

  • Shedding of the hair will occur anywhere from 5-30 days after your Laser Hair Reduction treatment, which may appear as new hair growth. This is not new hair growth, but dead hairs pushing their way out of the follicle. You can help the hair exfoliate by washing or wiping with a washcloth.

  • Hair re-growth occurs at different rates on different areas of the body. New hair growth will not occur for at least three weeks after you Laser Hair Reduction treatment.

  • In some people, a histamine reaction (hives, itchiness, redness) can occur. Apply Cortisone cream to the affected area. Please call us if such a reaction does not subside.
